Damping Off
Damping Off is a common plant disease that affects seedlings, causing them to wilt and die. It is primarily caused by soil-borne fungi, such as Pythium, Rhizoctonia, and Fusarium. These pathogens thrive in overly moist conditions and can quickly spread in crowded or poorly ventilated environments, leading to significant losses in gardens and nurseries.
Symptoms of Damping Off include a water-soaked appearance at the base of the stem, which eventually leads to rot. Infected seedlings may collapse and fall over, making it difficult for gardeners to establish healthy plants. Proper watering practices and good air circulation can help prevent this disease.
