DNA Transcription
DNA transcription is the process by which the information in a gene is copied from DNA to messenger RNA (mRNA). This occurs in the cell's nucleus, where an enzyme called RNA polymerase binds to the DNA at the start of a gene. The enzyme then unwinds the DNA strands and synthesizes a complementary strand of mRNA by matching RNA nucleotides to the DNA template.
Once the mRNA strand is formed, it undergoes processing, which includes adding a 5' cap and a poly-A tail for stability. The processed mRNA then exits the nucleus and enters the cytoplasm, where it serves as a template for translation, the next step in protein synthesis.
