D-type Asteroids
D-type asteroids are a class of asteroids found mainly in the outer regions of the asteroid belt. They are characterized by their dark surfaces, which reflect very little light, making them difficult to observe. These asteroids are thought to be composed of primitive materials, including carbon-rich compounds, and may contain water ice.
Most D-type asteroids are located in the Jupiter Trojans group, which shares an orbit with the planet Jupiter. Their unique composition and location provide valuable insights into the early solar system and the formation of planetary bodies. Studying D-type asteroids can help scientists understand the evolution of celestial objects.
