Crystal LaBeija
Crystal LaBeija was a prominent figure in the ballroom scene of the 1960s and 1970s, known for her charisma and talent. She was a member of the House of LaBeija, which she founded, and became a pioneer in the LGBTQ+ community, particularly for Black and Latinx individuals. Crystal was celebrated for her performances and her ability to challenge societal norms regarding gender and sexuality.
In addition to her contributions to the ballroom culture, Crystal LaBeija is remembered for her role in the documentary Paris is Burning, which highlighted the lives and struggles of those in the ballroom community.
