Crypto-Judaism
Crypto-Judaism refers to the practice of secretly maintaining Jewish beliefs and customs while outwardly conforming to another religion, often due to persecution. This phenomenon primarily occurred during the Spanish Inquisition, when many Jews were forced to convert to Christianity but continued to observe Jewish traditions in private.
The descendants of these Crypto-Jews, sometimes called Marranos, may still identify with their Jewish heritage today. They often seek to reconnect with their roots and reclaim their cultural identity, exploring their history and the practices that were hidden for generations.
