Croydon Airport
Croydon Airport was the first major airport in London, opening in 1920. It served as a key hub for international flights and was known for its modern facilities at the time. The airport played a significant role in the development of commercial aviation and was the departure point for many pioneering flights.
In 1959, Croydon Airport closed to passenger traffic as air travel shifted to larger airports like London Heathrow. Today, the site is home to the Croydon Airport Visitor Centre, which showcases its rich history and contributions to aviation. The terminal building is a Grade II listed structure, preserving its historical significance.
