Crown Prince Olav
Crown Prince Olav of Norway was born on July 2, 1903, and was the son of King Haakon VII and Queen Maud. He became the Crown Prince in 1905 when Norway gained independence from Sweden. Olav was educated in Norway and abroad, including at Oxford University, and he served in the Norwegian military.
During World War II, Olav played a significant role in the Norwegian government-in-exile in London. He returned to Norway after the war and became a popular figure, known for his dedication to the Norwegian people. Olav ascended to the throne as King Olav V in 1957 and reigned until his death in 1991.
