Crown Heights Riot
The Crown Heights Riot occurred in August 1991 in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The conflict began after a car driven by a member of the Lubavitcher Hasidic community struck and killed a young Black boy named Gavin Cato. This incident sparked tensions between the Hasidic community and local African American residents.
Following the accident, protests erupted, leading to violent clashes over several days. The situation escalated when a Jewish man, Yankel Rosenbaum, was killed during the unrest.
