Cranial Nerve V
Cranial Nerve V, also known as the trigeminal nerve, is the fifth cranial nerve and is primarily responsible for sensation in the face and motor functions such as biting and chewing. It has three major branches: the ophthalmic, maxillary, and mandibular nerves, which transmit sensory information from different areas of the face.
In addition to sensory functions, Cranial Nerve V controls the muscles involved in mastication, allowing for the movement of the jaw. It plays a crucial role in facial sensation, enabling individuals to feel touch, pain, and temperature in the facial region.
