Cradle To Cradle
"Cradle to Cradle" is a design philosophy that promotes the idea of creating products and systems that are regenerative and sustainable. Instead of following a linear model of "take, make, dispose," it encourages a circular approach where materials are reused and repurposed. This concept aims to eliminate waste and pollution by designing products that can be fully recycled or safely returned to the environment.
The philosophy was popularized by William McDonough and Michael Braungart in their book titled "Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things." They advocate for a holistic view of design that considers the entire lifecycle of a product, from its creation to its end-of-life, ensuring that it contributes positively to the ecosystem.
