Cover 2
Cover 2 is a defensive strategy used in American football, primarily to protect against deep passes. In this formation, two safeties are positioned deep in the field, each responsible for covering half of the field. This setup helps to prevent big plays by providing support against long throws while allowing the cornerbacks to focus on shorter routes.
In addition to its deep coverage, Cover 2 also allows for flexibility in defending against the run. The linebackers can move up to fill gaps, while the safeties can quickly react to plays in front of them. This balance makes Cover 2 a popular choice among defensive coordinators.
