Court of Special Appeals
The Court of Special Appeals is an intermediate appellate court in the state of Maryland. It reviews decisions made by lower courts, such as circuit courts, to ensure that the law was applied correctly. This court does not conduct trials; instead, it focuses on legal arguments presented in written briefs and oral arguments.
Established in 1966, the Court of Special Appeals serves to alleviate the caseload of the Maryland Court of Appeals, the state's highest court. Its decisions can be appealed to the Maryland Court of Appeals, but only in certain cases, making it a crucial part of the state's judicial system.
