Countrywide
Countrywide was a large mortgage lender in the United States, known for providing home loans and refinancing options. Founded in 1969, it grew rapidly and became one of the largest mortgage companies in the country, especially during the housing boom of the early 2000s.
However, Countrywide faced significant challenges during the financial crisis of 2007-2008 due to its involvement in subprime mortgages. The company was acquired by Bank of America in 2008, which aimed to stabilize its operations and address the fallout from the housing market collapse.
