Counterbore
A counterbore is a cylindrical recess cut into a material, typically to allow the head of a screw or bolt to sit flush with or below the surface. This technique is commonly used in woodworking and metalworking to create a clean finish and prevent protruding fasteners that could snag or damage other components.
Counterbores are often used in conjunction with countersinks, which create a conical recess for the screw's head. Together, these techniques ensure that fasteners are securely embedded, enhancing both the aesthetic and functional aspects of the assembly. Properly executed counterbores can improve the durability and appearance of a finished product.
