Count of Angouleme
The Count of Angoulême was a title in the French nobility, associated with the region of Angoulême in southwestern France. The title was established in the 10th century and became prominent during the medieval period. The counts played significant roles in local governance and military affairs, often aligning with the interests of the French crown.
One notable figure was Charles de Valois, who became the Count of Angoulême in the early 16th century. His lineage included connections to the royal family, as his daughter, Marguerite de Navarre, was the sister of King Francis I of France. The title eventually became extinct in the 17th century.
