Council of Serdica
The Council of Serdica was an important church assembly held in 343 AD in the city of Serdica, now known as Sofia, Bulgaria. It aimed to address the ongoing disputes regarding the nature of Christ and the relationship between the Arian and Nicene factions within early Christianity. The council sought to restore unity among Christians and clarify theological positions.
The council produced a series of canons and decrees, affirming the Nicene Creed and condemning Arianism. It also established procedures for handling ecclesiastical disputes and set a precedent for future church councils, influencing the development of Christian doctrine and governance in the centuries to follow.
