Council of Arles
The Council of Arles was a significant assembly of Christian bishops held in 314 AD in the city of Arles, located in present-day France. This council was convened to address various issues within the early Christian Church, including the controversy surrounding the treatment of those who had renounced their faith during the persecution under the Roman Emperor Diocletian.
One of the key outcomes of the council was the establishment of guidelines for the reconciliation of these individuals, as well as the affirmation of the authority of the bishop of Rome. The decisions made at the Council of Arles contributed to the development of church governance and the resolution of theological disputes in the early Christian community.
