Cotton-top tamarin
The cotton-top tamarin is a small primate native to the tropical forests of Colombia. It is easily recognized by its distinctive white, fluffy crest of hair on its head, resembling cotton. These monkeys typically weigh around 0.5 to 1 kilogram and have a body length of about 25 to 30 centimeters, excluding their long tails. They live in family groups and are known for their social behavior.
Cotton-top tamarins primarily feed on insects, fruits, and small vertebrates. They are considered an endangered species due to habitat loss and illegal pet trade. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their natural habitats and ensure their survival in the wild.
