Cordilleran languages
The Cordilleran languages are a group of indigenous languages spoken primarily in the mountainous regions of western North America, particularly in the Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevada. These languages belong to several different language families, including Salishan, Sino-Tibetan, and Uto-Aztecan, reflecting the diverse cultures and histories of the indigenous peoples in this area.
Many Cordilleran languages are endangered, with declining numbers of speakers due to historical factors such as colonization and assimilation. Efforts are being made to revitalize these languages through education and community programs, aiming to preserve the rich linguistic heritage of the Native American tribes in the region.
