Conversos
Conversos were Jews in Spain and Portugal who converted to Christianity during the late 14th and 15th centuries, often under pressure from the Spanish Inquisition. Many of these individuals continued to practice their Jewish faith in secret, leading to a complex identity that blended both religious traditions.
The term "Converso" can also refer to their descendants, who faced discrimination and suspicion from both Catholic society and their Jewish heritage. Despite their conversions, many Conversos were still viewed with skepticism, and their experiences highlight the challenges of religious identity during a time of intense religious conflict in Iberia.
