Continental Air Defense Command
The Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) was established in 1957 to provide air defense for North America. It was responsible for detecting and intercepting potential aerial threats, including enemy aircraft and missiles. CONAD operated radar systems and coordinated with various military branches to ensure the safety of U.S. and Canadian airspace.
In 1968, CONAD was reorganized and became part of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), which continues to monitor and defend North American airspace today. NORAD combines the resources of both the United States and Canada to enhance continental security against aerial threats.
