Confidential Informant
A Confidential Informant (CI) is an individual who provides information to law enforcement agencies about criminal activities, often in exchange for some form of benefit, such as reduced charges or financial compensation. CIs can be regular citizens, former criminals, or individuals involved in illegal activities who agree to cooperate with authorities to help solve crimes or gather intelligence.
CIs play a crucial role in investigations, particularly in cases involving drug trafficking, organized crime, or gang activity. Their information can lead to arrests, seizures of illegal goods, and the dismantling of criminal networks, making them valuable assets for agencies like the FBI or DEA.
