Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe
The Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) was a diplomatic initiative that began in 1973 and concluded in 1994. It aimed to improve relations between the Eastern and Western blocs during the Cold War. The conference focused on security, economic cooperation, and human rights, culminating in the Helsinki Final Act in 1975, which established principles for peaceful coexistence.
In 1994, the CSCE transitioned into the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), which continues to address security issues, promote democracy, and support human rights across Europe and beyond. The OSCE plays a crucial role in conflict prevention and crisis management.
