Conemaugh Dam
Conemaugh Dam is a significant earth-fill dam located in Pennsylvania, built to control flooding and manage water resources in the Conemaugh River basin. Completed in 1952, the dam stands 150 feet tall and stretches over 1,800 feet in length, creating the Conemaugh Lake reservoir, which serves recreational purposes and supports local wildlife.
The dam plays a crucial role in flood control, particularly after the devastating floods of the 1930s. It is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and helps maintain water levels, ensuring safety for nearby communities while providing opportunities for fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities.
