Communities of Practice: Learning, Meaning, and Identity
Communities of Practice (CoP) are groups of individuals who share a common interest or profession and engage in collective learning. Members interact regularly, sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices, which helps them develop their skills and understanding. This collaborative environment fosters a sense of belonging and encourages continuous improvement within the group.
In CoPs, learning is not just about acquiring new information; it also involves creating meaning and shaping individual and collective identities. As members participate, they negotiate their roles and contributions, which influences how they see themselves and their place within the community and the broader field of practice.
