Common Porpoise
The Common Porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) is a small marine mammal found in coastal waters of the Northern Hemisphere. It typically measures about 5 to 6.5 feet in length and weighs between 110 to 150 pounds. These porpoises have a robust body, a rounded snout, and a dark gray coloration with lighter undersides, which helps them blend into their environment.
Common Porpoises are social animals, often seen in small groups, and they primarily feed on fish and squid. They are known for their quick, agile movements and can often be spotted swimming near the surface. Their populations are affected by factors such as habitat loss and fishing activities, making conservation efforts important for their survival.
