Common Channel Signaling
Common Channel Signaling (CCS) is a method used in telecommunications to manage the signaling of multiple calls over a single communication channel. Instead of sending signaling information along with the voice data, CCS uses a separate channel to transmit control signals. This allows for more efficient use of network resources and faster call setup times.
One of the most widely used forms of CCS is Signaling System 7 (SS7), which facilitates the exchange of information between different network elements. CCS enhances the reliability and flexibility of telecommunication systems, enabling features like call forwarding, number translation, and mobile roaming.
