Common Basilisk
The Common Basilisk (*Basiliscus basiliscus*) is a lizard native to Central and South America. It is known for its distinctive green color and the ability to run on water, which has earned it the nickname "Jesus Christ lizard." This species can grow up to 3 feet long and is often found near rivers and streams in tropical rainforests.
Common Basilisks are primarily insectivorous but also eat small vertebrates and fruits. They have a unique crest along their back, which helps in display and thermoregulation. Their habitat is crucial for their survival, as they rely on dense vegetation for shelter and hunting.
