Columbia-Class
The Columbia-Class is a new class of ballistic missile submarines being developed by the United States Navy to replace the aging Ohio-Class submarines. These submarines are designed to enhance the U.S. nuclear deterrent capability and will carry the Trident II (D5) submarine-launched ballistic missiles. The Columbia-Class submarines are expected to be more advanced in stealth, survivability, and operational effectiveness.
Each Columbia-Class submarine will have a service life of about 42 years and is designed to operate in a variety of environments. The first submarine of this class, the USS Columbia (SSBN-826), is scheduled to be delivered in the early 2030s, ensuring the U.S. maintains a strong strategic deterrent into the future.
