The Colossus of Rhodes was a monumental statue that stood at the entrance of the harbor of Rhodes, Greece. Erected between 292 and 280 BC, it was built to celebrate the island's victory over Cyprus and was dedicated to the sun god Helios. Standing approximately 33 meters high, it was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Constructed from bronze and iron, the statue symbolized unity and strength for the people of Rhodes. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by an earthquake in 226 BC, but its legacy continues to inspire art and architecture throughout history.
