Colonial Organisms
Colonial organisms are groups of genetically identical individuals that live together and function as a single entity. These organisms can be made up of many interconnected cells or individuals, often referred to as zooids. Examples include coral reefs, where tiny polyps work together to build large structures, and sea squirts, which can form large colonies.
These organisms exhibit a division of labor, where different zooids may perform specific functions such as feeding, reproduction, or defense. This cooperation allows colonial organisms to thrive in various environments, enhancing their survival and adaptability compared to solitary organisms.
