Coachbuilders
Coachbuilders are specialized craftsmen or companies that design and construct custom bodies for vehicles, particularly for luxury cars and buses. They take a vehicle's chassis and create unique, often ornate, bodywork tailored to the client's specifications. This practice dates back to the early days of the automobile, when many cars were sold as bare chassis, allowing buyers to choose their preferred body style.
Historically, coachbuilding was a prominent trade, with famous names like Rolls-Royce and Bentley commissioning bespoke designs. Today, while mass production dominates the automotive industry, some coachbuilders still thrive, creating limited-edition vehicles that emphasize craftsmanship and individuality.
