Co-operative Commonwealth Federation
The Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) was a political party in Canada founded in 1932. It emerged during the Great Depression, advocating for social and economic reforms to address the needs of working-class Canadians. The CCF aimed to create a more equitable society through policies such as public ownership of key industries and social welfare programs.
In 1961, the CCF transformed into the New Democratic Party (NDP), which continues to operate today. The CCF played a significant role in shaping Canada's social policies and laid the groundwork for future progressive movements. Its legacy includes the establishment of universal healthcare and various labor rights initiatives.
