Clipperton
Clipperton is a small, uninhabited coral atoll located in the eastern Pacific Ocean. It is situated about 1,000 kilometers southwest of Mexico and is known for its unique biodiversity and rich marine life. The atoll is surrounded by a lagoon and features a small island at its center, which is often referred to as Clipperton Island.
The island was named after the English pirate John Clipperton, who is believed to have visited the area in the early 18th century. Clipperton has a complex history of territorial claims, primarily between France and Mexico. Today, it is administered by France and is considered a nature reserve, attracting researchers and conservationists interested in its ecosystems.
