Click Languages
Click languages are a group of languages that use click sounds as consonants. These languages are primarily spoken by the Khoisan peoples of southern Africa, but they are also found in some Bantu languages. The clicks are produced by creating a vacuum in the mouth and then releasing it, resulting in distinct sounds that are integral to the language.
The most common click sounds include dental, alveolar, and lateral clicks. Each type of click has its own unique articulation and can change the meaning of words. Click languages are fascinating for linguists due to their complex phonetic systems and the cultural significance they hold for their speakers.
