Clave
Clave is a rhythmic pattern used in various music styles, particularly in Afro-Cuban music. It typically consists of five notes played over two measures, creating a syncopated rhythm that serves as a foundation for other instruments. The two main types of clave are son clave and rumba clave, each with its own distinct pattern.
In addition to its musical role, clave also refers to a pair of wooden sticks used to play this rhythm. Musicians strike the sticks together to produce a sharp, resonant sound, making it an essential tool in many ensembles. The clave rhythm helps unify the music and guides performers in their playing.
