Civil Service Retirement System
The Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) is a retirement plan for federal employees in the United States, established in 1920. It provides benefits to workers who have served in government positions, allowing them to receive a pension based on their years of service and salary history. CSRS is primarily designed for employees hired before 1984.
CSRS is funded through employee and employer contributions, with the government matching a portion of the contributions. Benefits include a monthly pension, cost-of-living adjustments, and survivor benefits for eligible family members. It is one of the key retirement systems for federal workers, alongside the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS).
