Civil Relief
Civil Relief refers to legal protections and benefits provided to individuals, particularly military personnel, to help them manage their civil obligations while serving. This can include postponing court dates, delaying eviction proceedings, and suspending certain financial obligations. The aim is to ensure that service members can focus on their duties without the added stress of civil legal issues.
The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) is a key piece of legislation that outlines these protections. It applies to active-duty members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, as well as members of the Merchant Marine and commissioned officers of the Public Health Service.
