Cirebon Sultanate
The Cirebon Sultanate is a historical Islamic kingdom located in present-day Indonesia, specifically in West Java. Established in the late 15th century, it played a significant role in the spread of Islam in the region. The sultanate was known for its cultural and economic contributions, particularly in trade and arts, and it became a center for Islamic scholarship.
The sultanate was founded by Sultan Cirebon, who was a descendant of Sunan Gunung Jati, one of the Wali Songo, the nine saints credited with spreading Islam in Java. Over the years, the Cirebon Sultanate engaged in various alliances and conflicts with neighboring states, influencing the political landscape of Java.
