Circle of Willis
The Circle of Willis is a circular network of arteries located at the base of the brain. It connects the major arteries that supply blood to the brain, including the internal carotid arteries and the vertebral arteries. This structure helps ensure a continuous blood supply, even if one of the main arteries becomes blocked or narrowed.
This arterial circle is important for maintaining brain health, as it allows for collateral circulation. If one pathway is compromised, blood can still reach various parts of the brain through alternative routes, reducing the risk of stroke and other complications related to reduced blood flow.
