Cigar Galaxy
Cigar Galaxy, also known as Messier 82 or NGC 3034, is a prominent spiral galaxy located approximately 12 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major. Its elongated shape resembles a cigar, which is how it got its nickname. Cigar Galaxy is classified as a starburst galaxy, meaning it is experiencing a high rate of star formation.
This galaxy is notable for its bright core and the presence of numerous young, hot stars. Observations of Cigar Galaxy have revealed significant amounts of gas and dust, which contribute to its active star formation. It is often studied alongside its neighboring galaxy, Messier 81, which is part of the same group.
