Cicadidae Family
The Cicadidae family, commonly known as cicadas, consists of large, flying insects known for their distinctive sound. They are found in various habitats around the world, particularly in warm climates. Cicadas are recognized for their prominent eyes, short antennae, and robust bodies. They undergo a unique life cycle, spending several years underground as nymphs before emerging to mate and lay eggs.
Cicadas are famous for their mating calls, produced by males to attract females. These sounds are created by vibrating membranes called tymbals located on their abdomen. The most well-known species, such as the periodical cicada, can emerge in large numbers every 13 or 17 years, creating a remarkable natural phenomenon.
