Cicada Sound
The sound of a cicada is produced by the rapid movement of membranes called tymbals located on the sides of the male's abdomen. When these membranes are flexed, they create a loud, distinctive buzzing or clicking noise, which can vary in pitch and rhythm depending on the species. This sound is primarily used to attract females during mating season.
Cicadas are known for their loud calls, especially in warm climates during summer months. Their sounds can reach up to 120 decibels, making them one of the loudest insects. The cicada sound is often associated with hot summer days and is a familiar backdrop in many natural environments.
