Chun Doo-hwan
Chun Doo-hwan was a South Korean military officer and politician who served as the President of South Korea from 1980 to 1988. He came to power after a military coup in 1979, following the assassination of President Park Chung-hee. Chun's presidency was marked by authoritarian rule and significant political repression.
During his time in office, Chun implemented economic reforms that contributed to South Korea's rapid industrialization. However, his government faced widespread protests, particularly during the Gwangju Uprising in 1980, where a violent crackdown resulted in numerous civilian casualties. Chun's legacy remains controversial in South Korea.
