Christmas cactus
The Christmas cactus is a popular houseplant known for its vibrant, colorful blooms that typically appear around the holiday season. Unlike traditional cacti, it is native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil and thrives in humid environments. Its flat, segmented stems can grow up to 24 inches long and are often green or bluish-green in color.
This plant is part of the genus Schlumbergera and is commonly confused with the Thanksgiving cactus and Easter cactus, which bloom at different times of the year. To care for a Christmas cactus, it requires indirect sunlight, well-draining soil, and regular watering, especially during its blooming period.
