Christ of the Abyss
The "Christ of the Abyss" is a submerged bronze statue of Jesus Christ located in the waters of San Fruttuoso, Italy. Created by sculptor Guido Galletti in 1954, the statue stands about 2.5 meters tall and depicts Christ with outstretched arms, symbolizing a welcoming gesture to divers and visitors.
The statue was placed underwater to honor the memory of Domenico Marini, a local Italian diver who died in a diving accident. It has since become a popular attraction for divers and tourists, representing both a spiritual symbol and a unique underwater art installation.
