Chondroblasts
Chondroblasts are specialized cells responsible for the formation of cartilage, a flexible connective tissue found in various parts of the body, including joints, the ribcage, and the nose. These cells produce and secrete the components of the cartilage matrix, such as collagen and proteoglycans, which provide structure and support.
As chondroblasts mature, they become embedded in the cartilage matrix and transform into chondrocytes, the cells that maintain cartilage health. This process is crucial for the growth and repair of cartilage, especially during development and in response to injury.
