Chiton
A chiton is a type of marine mollusk belonging to the class Polyplacophora. They are characterized by their unique shell, which consists of eight overlapping plates. Chitons are typically found on rocky surfaces in intertidal zones and are known for their ability to cling tightly to rocks, helping them resist strong waves and predators.
Chitons have a broad, flat body and a muscular foot that allows them to move slowly across surfaces. They primarily feed on algae and other organic materials by using a specialized feeding structure called a radula. These creatures play an important role in their ecosystems, contributing to the balance of marine life.
