Chitimacha language
The Chitimacha language is a Native American language that was historically spoken by the Chitimacha tribe in Louisiana. It is part of the Muskogean language family and was traditionally used for communication within the tribe and in trade with neighboring groups.
By the mid-20th century, the language became nearly extinct, with the last fluent speakers passing away. However, revitalization efforts began in the 21st century, including language classes and educational programs, aimed at preserving and teaching the Chitimacha language to new generations.
