Chinese mantis
The Chinese mantis (Tenodera sinensis) is a large species of mantis native to East Asia. It is easily recognized by its elongated body, triangular head, and large, spiny forelegs, which it uses to catch prey. This insect can grow up to 4 to 5 inches long and is typically green or brown, allowing it to blend into its surroundings.
Introduced to North America in the late 19th century, the Chinese mantis has become a common sight in gardens and fields. It is a beneficial predator, feeding on various insects, including aphids and caterpillars, helping to control pest populations.
